Beautiful sound Kenneth, I had to share this, onward and upward!!!!!!!

If you look at my wall you will see 3 posts from yesterday which were either blue or annoyed. Not one of my better days!! Little did I know it all was a set up to be cured by Mayflower Jazz series; music soothes the savage beast you know.

The KG Experience dragged me out of the depths and took me way higher with two horn players of special note! Take numerous jazz standards played by really, really fine soloist and you start to feel what I felt last evening.

The leader was Kenneth Gill on trombone. He was extremely forceful; almost VIOLENT in his solos. He was followed by trumpeter Omar Lateef whose finesse of his horn was a thing of beauty!

They dedicated ‘In a Sentimental Mood’ to the memory of recently departed trumpeter legend Marcus Belgrave. Omar seems particularly inspired, as if to play a eulogy, on that one.

Thank You Maxine Michaels and Mayflower Jazz for transforming my day from dirty water to ever so sweet wine! Remember, great jazz can be found the first Friday of every month at Mayflower church and admission is on a donation basis. See you next month?

On Friday June 5, 2015, 7-10 pm : Geoffrey & Jade of Alvorada (Musical Artist) attended a concert in The Mayflower Music Series, organized and presented by Detroit's radio & Facebook personality Maxine Michaels. This concert's featured artist was The KG Experience. Here is the band lineup : Kenneth Gill (Trombone), Omar Lateef (Trumpet), Derrick Benford (Keyboards), Alexander Webb (Bass), and Dave Cheney (Drums.) This evening's program was primarily a fusion of contemporary Jazz with 70's-era sounds (including 70's Funk, Rock, Gospel, R&B, & Soul sounds.) Trombonist Kenneth Gill takes his instrument into imaginative & beautiful new tone-quality realms while preserving the basic warmth of the popular 70's-era tones. Bassist Alexander Webb, dressed in a mixed type of Early 1980's looks (think Bob Marley mixed with Elvis Costello), artfully blends in 80's funk bass sounds into the band's overall 70's sounds. Toward the close of the evening, both trumpeter Omar Lateef (who commutes from Florida to work with this band) and trombonist Kenneth Gill led the band on a piece that was announced as a tribute to the late Marcus Belgrave. This Mayflower Music Series concert included a truly gourmet-quality "upscale summer picnic" buffet dinner. This evening's audience formed a full house, and the concert concluded with a standing ovation for the band. For more about Kenneth Gill & his projects, visit www. KennethGillMusic.com

"In my humble estimation, Kenneth Gill is one of the brightest minds I've encountered in a young man of his generation. His focus and determination has brought him many opportunities. I've toured and recorded with many of "The Greats", including Max Roach, Charles Mingus, and Ray Charles. My extensive musical background has given me the ability to recognize natural talent and gifted musicians. I am pleased to say that Kenneth Gill is definitely one of those rare jewels."
